Beginner route

Start Here

If you've never invested before, this page is the calm route in. I came to investing through the expensive, confusing door: short-term trading, crypto, taxable-account mistakes and a lot of uncertainty. The point here is to make the basics boring enough to follow.

Read this site as education and personal documentation, not advice. I share what I do, what I wish I had understood sooner, and the questions I ask before putting money to work.

The beginner rail

Six stops, in order. The rail is the route I wish someone had drawn for me.

1

Separate investing from trading

My early Forex and crypto experiences taught me that short-term excitement is not the same as a long-term plan.

2

Understand what you're buying

What a share is, what an ETF is, how an index fund works, and why beginners usually do not need anything complicated.

Get the wrapper right

Stocks and Shares ISAs confused me at first. They deserve a simple explanation before anyone worries about the perfect fund.

Make it automatic

Recurring deposits and AutoInvest remove a lot of emotion. For me, automation is the single biggest habit.

Keep it simple

Broad ETFs, sensible fees, and fewer decisions beat constantly chasing top movers or whatever YouTube is excited about this week.

Learn to sit still

Markets drop. The plan for when it happens is decided before the red numbers appear, not during the panic.

What I am building toward

My own goal is long-term financial flexibility, including the possibility of clearing the mortgage earlier. That does not make my approach right for everyone, but it gives this site a real anchor: I am not writing theory from the sidelines, I am documenting decisions I actually have to live with.

New posts land every week. Browse everything published so far. The first practical calculators are now in the Tools section.

A promise: nothing on this site will ever tell you what to buy. I share what I do with my own money and explain how things work. What you do with yours is your call and your responsibility.
